Shake Up Wake Up

28 Jan Shake Up Wake Up

In last week’s NFL divisional playoff game, the San Francisco 49ers faced off against the Green Bay Packers. Most sports pundits predicted it would be an easy win for the 49ers. But they were thrown back on their heels. They had become complacent.

The 49ers were used to leading their opponents, but in the last fifteen minutes they were behind 21-14. The possibility of not making it to the Super Bowl shook them awake and brought about a 49ers victory.

The same thing happens to speakers and performers, especially ones who’ve become successful. Without challenge, they can lose they edge or worse– phone it in. A failure or near miss, even when a lot is riding on the outcome is a blessing in disguise. If a stumble forces you to reboot and refresh, welcome it. Safe and familiar venues make us soft. Only by constantly challenging ourselves and being uncomfortable can we stay competitive and keep scoring wins.
