Out Loud

19 Jun Out Loud

One of the biggest mistakes of a speaker is rehearsing their presentation in their heads and not out loud. We’ve had clients say they froze when they delivered their speech, because the sound of their voice was different than when they rehearsed it. You simply can not gauge how a presentation sounds by going over it mentally.

Take the time to outline your talk and then deliver it to the mirror or to a receptive audience. Ideally, rehearse in a space that’s approximately the same size and configuration as the space where you will be speaking. That way, you can project, or stand behind the podium or move in a way that you can duplicate at the actual event.

Many times I’ve rehearsed a short segment of my presentation into my phone’s voice message. Then I dial in to listen to how I sound. It’s much more revealing than to watch myself in the mirror, And the learning curve from a few practice sessions are much quicker.
