18 Feb A Singular Voice
There are those who stand against evil with nothing more than a voice and a will. And they change the course of history.
Bayard Rustin was one. He studied non-violence under Gandhi and introduced the concept to Martin Luther King, Jr. which became the cornerstone of the 1963 March on Washington. Compare that March with the January 6th insurrection to see how a civilian protest could be run. And note the damage to Washington, D.C. that 250,000 people could have caused, but didn’t.
Colman Domingo, who plays Rustin said of him, “I was surprised at his candor and his wit. He used language as his weapon.” And “He was not a superhero. These were ordinary people doing extraordinary things.” Rustin was awarded the Medal of Freedom posthumously in 2013.
Whether you are speaking at a City Council meeting, doing a TED talk, or pitching to build business, express your unique voice. Nurture your commitment until it’s ablaze. Speak directly to the better angels in others and you will always be on solid ground.
