26 Apr Forest Bathing
Homo Sapiens existed for over two hundred thousand years in mostly wild environments. Over the millennia, we have insulated ourselves from the wilderness that created us. But we will never outgrow our need for the healing power of nature. Even small gestures, like putting a plant on your windowsill can be beneficial.
And whenever possible, immerse yourself in forests, beaches and mountains— even neighborhoods with lots of trees. This will trigger biophilia, defined by Webster’s as “the human tendency to interact or be closely associated with other forms of life in nature.”
During this pandemic, connecting with the natural world has been shown to reduce stress, lower blood pressure, build your immune system, create better sleep and relieve pain. And after returning from a nurturing environment, you will have the focus and strength to face whatever challenges await. This increased well-being and productivity will stand you in good stead when you prepare for your next presentation, virtually or in person. Find a wild place and breathe it in.
