The Ask

05 Jan The Ask

It’s time to focus on what will ensure a successful year. Jeff Haden wrote an article in INC.com about Steve Jobs of Apple. Jobs was fiercely competitive, entrepreneurial, and brilliant. Asking for help was almost impossible because it made him feel vulnerable. Yet when he carried thefirst prototype iPhone in his pocket, the screen was scratched after only one day.

Instead of trying to work it out himself, Jobs called Wendell Weeks, the CEO of Corning. Weeks offered Jobs Gorilla Glass; a product Corning developed in the 1960’s but never produced. Today, over 6 billion devices use Gorilla Glass.

We all need wise counsel at times. Decide what you want to know and identify who can provide that skill, resource or relevant information. Respect their experience that came through hard work and diligence. And don’t be afraid to be vulnerable or face rejection. You might be surprised how much Seasoned Veterans enjoy sharing wisdom.

Every week, Deborah responds to clients who are stuck on their intention, how to create a compelling opening, read a client, or structure their talk. Reach out in 2025. Be fearless, curious, and thrive.
