Shock and Awe

11 May Shock and Awe

Ralph Fiennes’ character in the film Conclave had an eye-opening statement. “There is one sin which I have come to fear above all others—certainty. If there was only certainty and no doubt, there would be no mystery, and therefore no need for faith.”

We’ve always recommended that our clients speak with certainty and commitment. These are crucial elements for a compelling presentation. But lately, we see a dangerous trend. Many in the public eye are promoting an agenda without facts or evidence simply to grab attention and be featured in the news.

Certainty has a dark side and should be seriously examined before utilizing. Because, if we ignore reason and rely purely on shock and awe, we may grab an audience’s attention in the short run but damage our credibility in the long run. It then becomes a challenge to parse truth from fiction. Speak with fire but speak the truth.
