OSOJI

11 Jan OSOJI

A recent post from client Dr. Cristina Filippo of The Leti Company was titled This Year, Don’t Add. Eliminate. We were in the last phase of that very exercise, so it struck a nerve. Running Eloqui for over 25 years means we have to be nimble and very organized.

But we all receive endless posts and announcements on LinkedIn, Facebook and other social media sites. Then there are proposals that must be answered, deals that need negotiating, and never-ending household and family chores. Projects have to be deferred because we’re buried in a mountain of distractions. Dr. Filippo makes the case for clearing the decks to be a better leader.

In Japan, the concept is called Osoji and means great cleaning. It refers to preparing the house for holiday gatherings but also has a deeper meaning. While clearing, you reflect on the last year and prepare mentally to welcome the year ahead and let go of the past. It’s a brilliant ritual.

Don’t get overwhelmed by what you didn’t accomplish last year. Sweep away the junk and simplify, focusing on one task at a time and doing it well. Your speed and efficiency will improve. Commit to preparing and delivering a unique presentation in the new year. We need clear thinking to set a course and influence others. Be that clear, positive voice.
