Santa Fe’s numerous art galleries and museums are one of its many attractions and why it was recently awarded the #1 city in America by U.S. Travel and Leisure.
Vladem Contemporary snagged a fantastic exhibition called Timeless Mucha: The Magic of Line. Artist Alphonse Mucha was a pivotal figure in the Art Nouveau movement from 1890 – 1910 and became the Andy Warhol of his time.
His art, featuring beautiful women with flowing hair in Moravian costumes came into vogue at the same time as posters. Paris quickly displayed Mucha’s posters through-out the city. Boomers will remember 60’s posters for Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and the Fillmore– all styled after Mucha.
Mucha’s technical skill was astounding, but he knew how to present his work to reach a broad audience. He said, “The expression of beauty is by emotion. The person who can communicate…emotions to the souls of others is the artist.” This is exactly what we recommend to our clients.
How can you Mucha your presentation? Identify what is compelling to you. Say why it has meaning and it will affect your audience because they’ll feel it. A Harvard study titled Emotion and Decision Making states that “emotions are initially elicited rapidly and can trigger swift action. Feel that.
Note: Sarah Bernhardt was the most famous actor of her day. In 1894, she hired Mucha for six years to design all her posters, theatrical sets and jewelry. It was the first social media campaign and drove her worldwide success.
