Humans are great imitators, which is one of our best and worst traits. Deborah spent years directing corporate execs and David narrated many training films. What we saw was a race to the middle, professionals copying one another because “That’s the way we do it here at…” It was antithetical to our conditioning in the Entertainment Industry, which values individual expression and avoids imitation—except when businesspeople take over studios.
A powerful driver toward sameness is stage fright. Fear of the unknown, making a mistake and being judged by others when presenting will focus the mind– or make your thoughts unravel. This is why speakers can turn to AI.
Machine learning is essential in tasks that require collating large amounts of data. But when asked for your individual style or personal expression, AI falters. Your insights on a subject and how you present them is what attracts and persuades audiences. And when you strive for authenticity, delivered through the lens of your own experience, speaker anxiety is reduced and no machine can touch you.
