08 Dec Above All, Know Your Intention
Intention is a powerful device that forces us to focus, make difficult decisions, and edit our content. I’ve found Intention to be one of the most difficult concepts for our clients to initially grasp. However, when implemented, Intention can have an incredible impact on your presentation, career, and your life.
Identify your Intention before assembling your content or putting together your PowerPoint deck. Be strategic. Think about what you want to achieve before every meeting, pitch session, phone conversation, or speech.
However, don’t choose an Intention to have the audience or client like you, recognize how talented or smart you are, or realize how much you know about your topic. These objectives are self-focused and inner-directed.
When I speak to clients regarding Intention, another response I hear is “I want to educate, inform, or make sure my audience understands (fill in the blank).” Instead, make your focus be to motivate, persuade, or influence your audience to take an action or change their point of view. Put your attention on the listener or audience and you’ll silence your internal critic while tapping into your creativity and intellect.
